Superintendent Amerson's Letter to the DUSD Family

Dear Duarte Unified Families and Staff,

I hope this letter finds you all in good health and high spirits. As I sit down to write this, I find myself reflecting on the journey we've shared together at Duarte Unified School District. And for that reason, it is with both excitement and sadness that I share with you that it will be announced later today, that I am the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools for the Val Verde Unified School District in Riverside County. I look forward to continuing to serve this wonderful community through the end of this school year and anticipate my formal transition to occur by July 1, 2024.

Since joining the Duarte Unified School District team in 2018, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated educators, supportive families, and talented scholars. The warmth and kindness extended to me by the families have made my time here truly memorable.

Together, we have achieved great milestones and made significant strides in education. Our collective efforts have resulted in many remarkable accomplishments, most notably courageously navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully reopening our schools to our scholars and the successful passage of the Measure S Bond in 2020. This bond represents a commitment to the future generations of scholars who will benefit from enhanced facilities and resources, and so many more that we can be proud about.

I want to assure you that although I am leaving, you are in excellent hands with our Board of Education and the capable staff members who remain committed to providing the best possible education for our scholars. I have every confidence in their leadership and dedication to continue the outstanding work we have started together.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Duarte Unified School District community for the last six years and to have had the chance to work with such incredible individuals. While I am excited about this new chapter in my career, I will cherish the memories and relationships formed during my time here.

Thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout my tenure in Duarte. Please know that I will carry the lessons learned and the experiences shared with me wherever I go.

With warm regards,

Dr. Gordon Amerson, Ed.D.
Superintendent
